About Slow Recovery Notes

A small, independent notebook of short essays. It is a publication, not a practice, a shop or an organisation.

Updated 11 October 2026By the editors

Slow Recovery Notes is a collection of short essays about the ordinary things that decide how people feel from week to week: how they move, where it hurts, how they sleep, what they eat and who they talk to. Each essay takes one question, reads what public health agencies and published reviews say about it, and reports that in plain words.

What this is

The notebook is arranged on four shelves: movement, pain and posture, sleep, stress and support and food and mood. There are no long pillar guides. Every note is meant to be read in a few minutes, and most end by pointing to the sources so that a reader can go further.

The editors write as a publication, in the plural. We do not name individual authors, because the notes do not rest on anyone's personal experience or credentials. They rest on the sources listed at the foot of each page. You can read how those are chosen and checked on the how we check facts page.

What this is not

This is an independent educational publication. It is not a clinic, a therapy practice, a health charity, a professional society or a company, and it is not affiliated with any of them. It sells nothing, offers no treatment, coaching or referral service, and cannot give advice about your own symptoms. Nothing here replaces the judgement of a doctor, physical therapist, psychologist or other licensed professional who knows you.

If you are in pain that is getting worse, if you have symptoms that frighten you, or if you are thinking about harming yourself, contact a health professional or your local emergency number. A note about urgent back and neck symptoms is on the page when back or neck pain is urgent.

Corrections

Sources change and we make mistakes. If you find an error or an out-of-date statement, the editors would like to hear it. Corrections are made on the page itself and the update date changes.

The short version

A small notebook of sourced essays, written by an anonymous editorial team, offering general information and nothing else. Your own clinician has the final word.
